Lisetta Luchini

Lisetta Luchini è fiorentina di nascita ma campigiana (Campi Bisenzio, Firenze) di formazione (come Narciso Parigi e Carlo Monni); chitarrista, attrice, cantastorie, compositrice di musica, è oggi una fra le più applaudite interpreti del repertorio popolare toscano. Un patrimonio di canti, di musica, di teatro, di immenso valore culturale, che rischierebbe di andare perduto se non ci fossero interpreti come lei che da anni, senza concedersi un attimo di sosta, porta in giro per la Toscana e anche fuori regione quella tradizione antica che i media e la moderna industria musicale denigra o addirittura ignora.

Attiva dal 1990 come cantante di musica popolare toscana, ripropone nella versione autentica, tutto il repertorio anonimo e non, della sua terra, dalle canzoni narrative agli stornelli, dalle  serenate  alle storielle, dai canti sociali alle più belle canzoni d’autore dedicate alla Toscana.

Come studiosa e ricercatrice è fra i soci fondatori del Centro Studi Tradizioni Popolari Toscane insieme ad altri illustri storici e ricercatori; naturalmente fa parte del comitato di redazione della rivista "Toscana Folk", periodico del Centro,  di cui cura la parte musicale. Le fonti del suo repertorio sono le grandi raccolte del passato, dall’800 in poi, i lavori di ricerca egregiamente svolti da colleghi negli anni 60/70, l’apporto prezioso di studiosi, ricercatori ed etnomusicologi. Lei stessa continua nella ricerca sul campo, essendo in contatto con la maggior parte delle realtà di tradizione orale della regione: poeti in ottava rima, cori di maggianti, archivi, centri studi delle tradizioni popolari.

Suo intento principale, come ripropositrice, è quello di estendere alle nuove generazioni, il patrimonio di bellezze musicali e poetiche della Toscana, impostando gli spettacoli in modo “teatrale” cioè discorsivo e brillante e  non apparentemente didattico affinché, in qualche modo, se ne conservi la memoria.

Aggiungiamo che al suo attivo c’è anche un’ impegnativa carriera teatrale come attrice protagonista. La sua formazione risale agli anni 80, attingendo più che da veri e propri metodi, dalla diretta esperienza in gruppi giovanili e realtà artistiche varie che le hanno permesso di assimilare tecniche e prassi eterogenee, dallo “sperimentale” al teatro di strada, dai “classici” al vernacolo e al teatro musicale.

Although Lisetta Luchini was born in Florence, she draws her professional roots from Campi Bisenzio, just outside Florence (like Narciso Parigi and Carlo Monni); guitarist, actress, ballad singer and composer of music, she is today one of the most applauded interpreters of Tuscan folk repertoire. A patrimony of songs, music and theatre of immense cultural value that would probably be lost were it not for performers like Lisa. For years and without a moment’s rest, she has been giving performances all over Tuscany, as well as elsewhere, to revive those ancient traditions that are scorned and often ignored by the media and modern musical industry.

Active as a singer of Tuscan folk music since 1990, she re-proposes authentic versions of all the anonymous and signed repertoire of her native land, from narrative songs, ditties, serenades, funny stories and social songs to some of the most beautiful songs dedicated to Tuscany.

A scholar and researcher, Lisa, along with other illustrious historians and researchers, was one of the founder members of the Centro Studi Tradizioni Popolari Toscane; she is naturally also responsible for the musical section on the editing team of the Centre’s periodical the "Toscana Folk" magazine. She finds the sources for her repertoire in the great collections of the past, from the 19th century onwards, the result of research carried out by her colleagues in the 1960’s and 70’s, together with valuable contributions from other experts, researchers and ethno-musicologists. She still continues to carry out research in this field herself as she is in regular contact with most of the world of oral traditions in the region, from the poets in ottava rima, May song choirs and archives to other study centres of folk traditions. 

As a revivalist, her main aim is to extend the patrimony of the beautiful music and poetry of Tuscany to the new generations and she therefore stages her performances “theatrically” so that they are chatty and amusing without apparently being educational, in the hopes that she can in some way contribute towards preserving their memory in time.

We should also add that in the past she had a demanding theatrical career as an actress, when she played many leading roles. Her professional training dates back to the 1980’s and derives more from direct experience with groups of young actors and various artistic situations than from real methods, This permitted her to assimilate heterogeneous techniques and methods, from “experimental” and street theatre to the “classics”, theatre in local dialect and musicals.
